Broadway Shows & Field Trips
Probably no other street on earth has had more impact on the performing arts than Broadway in New York City. When any stage actor or playwright, singer or composer thinks of hitting the big time, they imagine their big Broadway premier. Originally, most of the theaters in this area were actually located on Broadway itself. The Theater District today, however, includes the area between Broadway and Eighth Avenue from 42nd to 50th Street. Broadway is more than just an address, though. It's a state of mind that for decades has represented the highest achievement in American theatre. Both the area and the industry are enjoying an explosion right now that has left producers scrambling for empty theatres and patrons packing the sidewalks and local restaurants. Broadway is located in the heart of Manhattan, providing the city with one of its most important districts. Among the theaters included in the district are such large musical houses as the Gershwin, the Palace, the Winter Garden, and the Imperial, and many smaller, non- musical theaters such as the Music Box, the Booth and the Helen Hayes.
